2nd Physically Disabled National Individual Chess Championship 2017

As many as thirty nine players representing six states which included 12 FIDE rated players vied for the top honors’ in the 2nd Physically Disabled National Individual Chess Championship, 2017 which was organized by Chess Federation for Physically Disabled at Pavendar Bharathidasan College of Engineering and Technology, Tiruchirappalli. The star attraction of this year’s event was five times of IPCA World Champion Women International Master K.Jennitha Anto (Tamil Nadu) and IPCA Junior Bronze Medalist Master Samarth J Rao (Karnataka) and the defending champion FIDE Master Venkata Krishna Karthik (Andhra Pradesh)
The additional glamour for this four days event was inauguration of the championship by Five-time World Chess Champion Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand on Thursday, 9th November. This ranking in this event being selection event for the Asian and the World Physically Disabled National Individual Chess Championship the players fought all the seven rounds with more valor and determination. It was very encouraging to note that all the players though fighting against many odds show true spirit of a sportsman leading to no protest or no complaint.
In the men’s category FIDE Master Venkata Krishna Karthik K (Andhra Pradesh) retained the Physically Disabled National Individual Men’s title with 6.5 points out of possible seven. The champion carried home a cash prize of Rupees Ten Thousand apart from glittering Champion’s Trophy. The runner up was Kannan V (Tamil Nadu) who became richer by Rupees Seven Thousand and the third place was Candidate Master Samrath J Rao (Karnataka). Five times World Champion WIM Jennitha Anto K emerged as the Physically Disabled National Individual Women Champion with 5 points. She too carried home the champion’s share of Rupees Ten Thousand. Kanishri R P (Tamil Nadu) finished second with 4 points. Manjula Ramu (Tamil Nadu) was third with 2/5 points. Praneeth KSSRA (Telangana) became the Junior champion with 4 points.
